In the Hillsboro Elementary Hallways:
Mrs. Podoll's first graders working hard during shared reading. This is part of the elementary school's new reading curriculum; Bookworms.

In the Elementary Hallways:
Here is a student working on a phonemic awareness activity. We use kinetic sand in this exercise by rolling sand into little “bubble gum” balls. Then as the student says each sound in a CVC word they get to smash each ball. After the student smashes each sound, they then write each sound and blend the sounds together to write the word. We write sight words in kinetic sand using a stick. This is also a multi sensory activity, but it helps students learn not to push down too hard when writing (otherwise it’s hard to see the letters if they push too hard in the sand). #BurroPride

Congrats to Christian Brist who is the Boys’ East/West Region Cross Country Champion🏆!! Also congrats to all HCV Burro runners. 🏃♀️ 🏃♂️ Top 20 are All-Region. 📸Hillsboro Banner

Hillsboro Elementary had six super heroes join us today to visit with students about being kind, responsible, compassionate, persevering, sportsmanship, and integrity. Please help your children think about each of these words in the coming year. Our fist word is kindness:

Reminder this Friday, September 30th, we have NO SCHOOL for students. We have a Teacher Professional Development Day.

In the Hillsboro Elementary Hallways: In Mrs. Elliot's third grade science class, they have been learning about force and friction! To test out different forces, they built catapults and tried to launch pom poms into cups. The students had to determine how much force they would need to get the Pom Pom into the cup. To test out friction, they went "ice skating" to see which materials had a lot friction and which materials had a little bit of friction. #BurroPride

Doesn't this picture just want to make you move to Hillsboro?
