🏫 Aging school facilities alert! 💔 In 2022, a facilities assessment revealed it'll cost up to $18 million over 10 years to fix our two school buildings. The elementary, built in 1959, has had renovations in 2000, 2003, and 2014. 🛠 A portion of the HS was built in 1894 with additions to the school in 1949, 1954, & 1965. Portions of our buildings have inefficient heating/cooling along with ADA and fire code issues. Despite efforts, a $12 million new build and renovation referendum in 2023 fell short of the needed 60% voter approval, with YES votes at 54.9%. 🗳️ The struggle with older facilities impacts our ability to attract and retain families and teachers. 💼 Let's work together for a brighter future! ✨

Who doesn't like to celebrate? We strive to celebrate successes at the HPS. Because of our high expectations we strive for consistency by our administrators, staff, and students. We have had the luxury of longevity in our staff and that creates a positive culture that students and staff want to be a part of.

A priority for the Hillsboro District was to integrate technology in our teaching and to see more technology being used by the students. After the pandemic HPS became a 1:1 device for K-12 students and all classrooms have interactive boards.

Hillsboro Elementary School is hiring! Check it out!

In our student data findings at HPS, we needed to close the achievement gap in reading and increase engagement and motivation after the global pandemic. We were awarded the State Reading Grant and were able to revamp how we taught reading and phonics. Our teachers were trained in the Reading of Science in order to understand how the brain learns to read and revamp reading instruction. After the pandemic we had the funding for two strategists at the elem school, and a full-time strategist at the HS. These intervention strategists are able to analyze the assessment data to target instruction to individual and small groups.

The Hillsboro District offers high quality, research based professional development that is aligned to our school mission/vision, our strategic plan, and ND legislation. We are fortunate to collaborate with RRVEC, UND, and NDSU for PRISM credits. We have also partnered with the Northern Cass School District, Jamestown University, and the Burgum Foundation to offer a Teacher Leader Academy for teachers to earn their masters degree in 5 semesters.
