Good Afternoon,

The school staff appreciates all the work that you parents are doing at home with your children. We know it is not easy. Please hang in there and be flexible with your children and with the school. We are all new to this. Please let us know if you have any questions at this link.

Here are a few questions that may help to understand the new schooling situation a little better.

The Hillsboro Distance Learning Plan was approved what does this mean?

With the Hillsboro Distance Plan being approved this means that the district have not missed any days of instruction. We will continue with our regular school calendar. Our next NO SCHOOL days, because of the Easter holiday, are Friday, April 10th and Monday, April 13th. Our school distance learning plan is on our website at this link.

How long will we be doing this distance learning?

Great question. We will continue this type of distance learning education until the Governor permits everyone to go back to our normal lives and schedules. ND has not hit it’s “peak” yet, so I will give schedules of things to come on this email through May 1st to be safe.

When is the next packet pickup for grades K-6?

Today's packets that were given out will last for 2 weeks. Our next packet pick-up and drop-off of work will be on Thursday, April 9th from 10:30am-12:30pm. (Right before the Easter holiday.) Parents do not need to get out of their vehicle. Please stay inside your vehicle and we will come to you.

Are there Chromebooks available for my child?

Yes, Chromebooks for grades 7-12, which has all online classwork, are available for checkout in the main office from 8:00am – 4:00pm daily. The parent or student may come to check out the Chromebook.

Can we still sign up for meals?

Yes. Please take the meal survey at this link.

What if I do not need meals on a certain day or a certain week?

Please email paula.suda@k12.nd.us and let me know what the change is.

Do I need to sign up every week for meals?

No. Once you are on the list, you are on for good. If you can’t make it for pick-up, please have someone else pick it up for your children, or let us know that you don’t need a meal. Again, email paula.suda@k12.nd.us for any changes.

Meal pickup schedule at HEC lobby door #6: March 30th – April 3rd - Monday & Wednesday from 10:30am-12:30pm

April 6th – April 10th - Monday & Wednesday from 10:30am-12:30pm (NOTE: We will not serve for Easter Friday, April 10th and Easter Monday, April 13th)

April 13th – 17th – Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30am-12:30pm

April 20th – 24th - Monday & Wednesday from 10:30am-12:30pm

April 27th – May 1st - Monday & Wednesday from 10:30am-12:30pm

Some reminders for our students about distance learning:

● Identify a space in your home where the student can work effectively and successfully.

● Engage in all learning with academic honesty.

● Communicate proactively with your parents and teachers if you cannot meet deadlines or require additional support.

● Comply with Internet and Technology policies including expectations for online etiquette.

Can we use the school playground, track, fitness center or gym?

In the Governor’s executive order he has closed all track complexes, playgrounds, fitness centers, and gyms. Please let your children know this. At our playground we will post a sign saying the following: “If you choose to play on this playground, please practice social distancing and stay six feet away from other users. You may want to use your hand sanitizer when you are done. You may also choose to use your own bacterial wipes to wipe off any surfaces prior to playing.”

Please practice the following below with your children:

We thank you for your patience at this difficult time. We will get through this.

Have a great day.

Good Evening Hillsboro Students & Parents,

Today the Governor of ND gave an executive order that K12 Schools should be closed to reduce the spread of the Coronavirus from Monday, March 23rd to Tuesday, March 31st. Our teaching staff will continue to work on giving our students opportunities to learn for these days the students are out of the building.

What does this mean? Our elementary teachers have prepared packets of lessons and activities for the elementary students to work on for next week while they are at home. We will have weekly packet drop-off and pick-up on Mondays at the elementary school. At the high school all students have a Google Classroom login. All teachers have their classrooms online that the students will log into and assignments, videos, and links will be given to students in order to continue learning remotely while at home. We are going to experience some kinks during this, but this will be a great way to engage students in learning while we cannot be in the building giving face-to-face delivery.

On Monday, March 23rd both schools will be open from 8:30am–5:00pm to allow parents to pick up their child’s packets and instruments at the elementary school. At the HS we would like all students or parents to come and pick up their books, instruments and materials in order to use Google Classroom for their education platform. If any high school students do not have Wi-Fi the school will work with you to gain access at your home.

Hillsboro Schools will also be offering FREE meals to ALL children ages 1-18 starting Monday, March 23rd. If you are interested in this service, PLEASE answer this survey so we can get correct numbers: https://forms.gle/5KyyMuCymSFL5Vmz8

Through all of this, please ensure to your children that our goal is to get all students back in the buildings for face to face learning. We miss the students and we hear that they also miss our wonderful staff. This is a trying time, but we will get through this. Parents, hang in there.

We will continue to communicate any new information to you when we receive it. If you have any questions or comments, please call the high school office at 636-4360 or the elementary school office at 636-4711.

Please stay safe,

Superintendent Paula Suda
